Kara Lilly, CFA, is the Investment Strategist at Mawer. In her role, she contributes to the Global Asset Allocation team and conducts thematic and macroeconomic research for use in the firm’s global mandates. Her research takes the “macro” and turns it into “micro” decisions. Previously, she served as an Equity Analyst at Mawer, working on the award-winning global small cap and international equity funds.

Kara is deeply entrepreneurial and has a tendency to found and help build startups. In recent years, she co-founded a business that brought the world’s top composting clean tech to Canada for the first time, and the Calgary arm of Acumen, a non-profit organization that raises charitable donations to invest in companies that are changing the way the world tackles poverty.

An advocate for the philosophy of stoicism, Kara routinely challenges herself in unconventional ways. She recently won the grueling 24-hour mountain bike race, 24 Hours of Adrenalin, in Canmore, and will compete at the World Championships for the event.
